The original New York City Sub Shop, this restaurant was built in 1985 by Bruce Tlougan. A three foot gas grill, two small refrigerators, a meat slicer, a mini triple sink, a cash register, an igloo ice box, and a small, four flavor soda fountain was all the shop had in the small 110 square foot location. A maximum of three customers could fit in at a time. You had to stand outside (often in a snowstorm) to get your sub passed through a small pick-up window. It was strictly a take-out business. However, your sub could be delivered by bike often by one of the fastest bike racers in town, whose aim was to deliver quality as fast as possible.

Bruce worked every shift for a long time and still carries quite a workload. He was proud to deliver to his customers a great product for an affordable price. His hard work and simple design led to a successful foundation to build upon as he expanded his horizons further west to Oregon.
